Brakes Evaluation And Repair
BRAKING HAS NEVER BEEN SAFER
With advances in technology, vehicles have never been safer. A huge part of that is braking. Anti-lock braking systems (ABS) reduce stopping distances and prevent the tires from locking up and skidding. They do this by essentially taking control of the braking system from the driver, and pumping the brakes many times per second. This in turn helps the driver keep the vehicle in control during a sudden stop.
WHEN TO CHANGE BRAKE FLUID
Brake fluid is a regular maintenance item, and the ABS system requires the brake fluid be in good condition. Most people aren’t aware that brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it readily absorbs water. Water contamination causes rust to form, and deterioration of rubber seals inside sensitive brake components, and could cause a soft brake pedal. Once the brake fluid has a water-content of more than 3%, it’s time for a change.
