Also, it’s common for engine to use a very thin engine oil to accommodate extremely tight crankshaft clearances. Most new Subarus use a 0W-20 synthetic. Diesel engines also take a special oil, and European diesels, such as a Mercedes Sprinter with BlueTEC, the Audi and Volkswagen TDI, or the BMW d series, all require special motor oils.
